Brief report: The team put up a great fight but won no medals. France, German, and the Nederlands did the best. The refereeing was iffy and, for example, a hold down was put on hold in order for the referees to discuss the value of a previous punch. Actual, the refereeing was atrocious. Ben DeLeon did a great job of coaching and we almost medaled in several events, in some cases I think we did but were put out of the game for misunderstandings. One such was a question of a proper application of a choke and the other a disqualification for something that was permitted for other athletes. The US Team acted in the most sportsmanlike manner and we were truly proud of them. I enjoyed meeting the JJIF Board again and especially Paul Hoglund from Sweden with whom I talked over the state of the Olympics and the planning of a goodwill tour this spring to Sweden, Latvia, Estonia, and Lithuania. We also are thinking of a trip to England and Greece for training and friendly competition. The location was beautiful and the beaches the best that I have seen, too bad it was too cold. The steaks in Uruguay were really to die for in everyone's opinion. The final day there was a huge and grand party at a nearby ranch. All in all, it was one of the best trips that I have taken and the JJIF is definitely in the running as one of the best viewable sports ever.
I am putting up several pages of pictures of the event. Competition Venue Team Travelers Team Competition Team Enjoying Themselves
10/20/02 Note from Jack Pyles in WV Just a brief note on the tournament in Charleston on Saturday. Met a lot of former USAKF people who are just starting to return to the circuit of competition, had a great time traveling with one of David’s students as well as one of Mark Cramers. All the USAKF people - Mcrinna, Crank, Napier and local KMK students did better than expected (homefield advantage) and most defiantly refiected well back to there teachers and the USAKF.Notables: Jordan Brock-David Ames student 3rd in kata and 2nd in kumite 16-17 male advanced. This is the first competition Jordan has done outside the KMK and did very well against several hometown favorites. He hasn’t worked kata for awhile and was not planning to compete in it but after some gentle persuasion did and did very well. In kumite my only suggestion after watching the tape is he keeps his elbows fully extended away from his body which opened his sides up. Adam Pyles - 3rd in kata, second in weapons and 1st in kumite. Since Adam is my son I will not make any comments and get the tape to those who need to see it. The only thing I will say is his fighting is much more aggressive and that came from Roger since Adam did break the nose of one of Rogers students and he couldn’t return to the line forfeiting to Adam. Nikki Pyles - 6th in weapons (first time moving into the 10-13 division much larger than she is used to and defiantly more experienced competitors). 1st in kata and second in kumite. Again she is mine so comments limited - in kata that is her thing she likes and has always done well, and her training between Hombu, David and Mike, I do not believe is any better anywhere. Her fighting has gotten stronger and more aggressive since she is working more at David’s with her fighting and also spending some time with Adam and Lucinda and Deb on it. Working Sai’s she is limited in her overall training, so I think she is planning on going back to either bo or tonfa so she can get training from Adam or others. Mary Meade - Mark Cramers student is the newest addition to the USAKF traveling group and she has always been an outstanding competitor and Saturday was no different. She took 2 gold’s kata and kumite. Credit goes to Mark and Erin Eff for all the time they have but into her. This was her first NGB experience in Advanced division and beat some of WV better people hands down. The biggest thing with Mary as well as most coming from dojo fighting to NGB is they do not follow through with techniques or they throw the technique and back off before the officials call the point. The officiating was average if not below, Roger was short on officials and was able to run only 3 rings till he started to use the 16 year olds and older competitors. Once that happened he ran 5 rings and actually the officiating got some what better. That is one thing John Naanay would like to see more of in the USAKF, is our 16 year old and older competitors become more involved with officiating since most of them know the rules and are more ring knowledgeable. Flip of the coin on that one. We where treated well as always and Hanshi was missed and asked for by many of the old timers who are starting to come back. Rogers next event will be the NGB qualifier in February which we will attend even though we do not plan to go to CA. for the Nationals.

7/15/002 Subject: US Jujitsu Team Seminar Report From: Mike Piaser, MPiaser@mrisystem.com Mr. DeLeon's seminar when very well. I taught about half of the time...predominantly referee/rules/running matches along with some ground technique. Mr. Harrison's son (Kris) was there. He looked really good and had a good attitude (as did most of the attendees). Mr. Caldwell was there with a couple of his students. There we 15-20 people at the seminar. On the last day, Mr. DeLeon had to work so I ran the Sunday sessions for the 1/2 day before I had to leave for the airport.
2/25/02 - Arnold Classic - Columbus, OH - By George Anderson
The event went well and Shihan Geelani from Toledo ran the karate competition with consummate ease. Of course, he had the best of operating staff with Mike Bukala at the front and KMK/USAKF referees such as Shihan David Ames and Shihan Mike Bukala. The event was much bigger than last year and took a complete hall for the entire day. In the next room, Mike Piaser supervised the competition of the USJJ with the help of Canadian Ju-Jitsu President Barton. The event was so impressive that a competitor from Florida, Renshi Rodriquez, was asked to show his team's stuff at the opening ceremonies.
I met many old friends, Sensei Grant - who co- founded the old Armed Forces Judo Assn which later became the USJA, and who opened the first judo dojo in Ohio. Also saw Mike Hixon, another great name from the past. This is a good event but is so crowded with body builders and other like that transportation, rooms, and food are hard to arrange. So is viewing all the exhibits.
I should comment that some of my friends saw a 755 bench press, a 15 year old bench 550, and a small (126?) woman bench triple body weight, nearly 300. So much for us strong men.
2/19/02 - Passing of Dr. James Dussault, 8th Dan. - from:--Kwanmukan Central TKD. usakf@raex.com
It is my sad obligation to inform everyone of the untimely death of Dr. James Dussault. Dr. Dussault was shot and killed in Arizona on February 19, 2002 -- His attacker has committed suicide --The suspicious circumstances are under investigation --We will post more details and a further biography as the facts become more clear.---- Dr. Dussault was a close student, friend, and associate of Anderson Hanshi and was a noted officer with the Kwanmukan. Dr. Dussault was a senior executive with the Global Martial Arts, the Changmookwan/Central Taekwondo Association, the Kido Federation, the Kobudokan, the USAKF, and the USJJF. He had very strong connections with the Chinese and Korean Martial Arts and worked tirelessly to bring the various factions to talk together. Dr. Dussault was a man of great vision and abilities. His capacities were so broad that we are not sure that he can ever be replaced.
2/18/02 - US Ju-Jitsu Spring Camp- By George Anderson
The weekend started with a trip to Vegas courtesy of the new KICKBOXX magazine. Barry Moyer and the KICKBOXX executives met me in Vegas we then met with Soke Glen Premru of the Okinawan Shorin-ryu and Grandmaster Ted Tabura from the Lima Lama/Okinawa-te style. It was good to see Glen again as I knew him well when he was resident in Pittsburgh. He is doing great and we went over some very interesting old stories. Ted is a great guy with a strong background; we went over to visit Mitch McClanahan at his dojo/video production office. He was working on a new presentation tape for Gene LeBelle. (Gene LeBelle was at the Fall USJJ Camp and I can tell you that Gene and Gokor are probably the best grapplers that I have seen. I sat out the workout because it was evident that my poor body would not endure the cranking, that is if I was to continue to continue with my hard teaching and workout schedule. When you get old, you must be more careful. (For example, If your living depends on teaching kicking, be careful with skiing.) Anyway, these guys are very tough and I recommend to all you grapplers with egos that you train with McClanahan/LeBelle for a while -- then write me a note.)
We left Vegas the next morning and flew to San Francisco where we met with Sid Campbell, who is engaged in writing the Bruce Lee Oakland Days. After some good stories we left for Reno by car and the traffic was stop-start, bumper to bumper for the entire trip. The USJJ Spring Camp was in progress and Rick Dunn was teaching police tactics when we arrived. The KICKBOXX group departed after some interviews. I really had some questions about the tactics taught and we entered into a vigorous debate that still is not fully resolved. We need some more input here, and I am certain that we will get it. The old PSDI, in my opinion, confined itself more to sound principles and recognized, investigated, and adjusted to the contrary opinions of the many opposing attitudes found in police work. But, all that being said, Dunn did a respectable job.
In the afternoon Jim Harrison taught. As usual, he is a super technician and certainty one of the best players to arise in America. No nonsense, solid basics, and unlimited determination have made him arguably the toughest man karate has seen to date. Furthermore, he is smart. That evening, Jim Harrison was awarded the 9th Dan- Hanshi - in the US Ju-Jitsu Federation.
We left for Frisco by car at about 9 p.m. and ran into a terrific snow storm in the passes in Tahoe. When we finally got to the airport in SF I found I had left my bag with air tickets, money, and credentials back in Reno. You can guess the rest.

----June National Training Camp in Jackson Mill, WV hosted by USNKF General Secretary Roger Jarrett (7th Dan Director of USA Martial Arts Training Centers). Hanshi Anderson really likes Shihan Jarrett and he has his full support in his efforts for the USA-NKF and featuring Shihan Kyoshi Yamazaki 7th Dan. Shihan Mike Bukala, Jack and Adam Pyles, Robert McHalffey, and Hanshi Anderson drove down. Hanshi was well received and enjoyed meeting Shihan Yamazaki, a long time associate. During Chimbara play at party time. A boy was doing all comers in with the nunchuku. Adam Pyles chose the swords and was soon chased out for whopping the smoke out his opponents and being a bully. See what training does.
----BONG SOOL - Sensei Brian Arnold and Adam Pyles are doing very strong Bong Sool practice which includes fighting with the bong (bo) without padding. Very, very strong indeed and if any of you great bo-men would like to try your hand or learn more, we will show it at a special future work session. In the meantime, this are exercises ONLY for those who practice. It is not exaggeration to say that Sensei Arnold is living proof of the efficacy of following Hanshi Anderson to the letter. His use of weapons is simply superb.
----COMPETITION KUDOS - Congratulations to the KMK athletes who have kept the excellence in competition alive. Adam and Nicole Pyles, Karen Horattas, David Ringeis, Chad White, Greg McElroy to name a few. Shihans Mike Bukala and David Ames have been fantastic floor coaches and have made the hard work of the Shihans realized in sport karate and jujitsu.n Shihan Mike Dunphy has been very successful with its first Bring-A-Buddy day as an opportunity to introduce neighbors and friend to the martian arts and share a powerful and positive experience together .n Who teachers more daily classes than Shihan Jeff Ellis. Guess how many?
----Hanshi Anderson has been named International Advisor for the Ju-jitsu International Federation. The JJIF is rapidly approaching Olympic status with its complete participation in the World Games, which itself is a member of the Olympic family.
----CANADA JU-JITSU HAS OLYMPIC RECOGNITION - Canada has now recognize Canadian Ju-jitsu as a member of the Canadian Olympic family and the US Ju-jitsu is in the process of filing its own application to the USOC.
----ANOTHER CERTIFICATE FOR GEORGE ANDERSON - Hanshi Anderson has received a 9th Dan certificate from the Korean Martial Arts Instructors Association authorizing him to mobilize the Changmookwan INthe USA. Hanshi and others are looking at plans to go to Korea this October to meet with important officials and to talk to old friends. The delegation will be large and if you want to go, see Hanshi Anderson right away. The total trip is about $2000 and that includes most everything.
----HISTORY LESSON OF THE MONTH --Here are some facts about the 1500s: (Got this somehere, not original -don't know who to credit)---Most people got married in June because they took their yearly bath in May and still smelled pretty good by June. However, they were starting to smell, so brides carried a bouquet of flowers to hide the body odor.---Baths consisted of a big tub filled with hot water. The man of the house had the privilege of the nice clean water, then all the other sons and men, then the women and finally the children-last of all the babies. By then the water was so dirty you could actually lose someone in it-hence the saying,"Don't throw the baby out with the bath water." -- Houses had thatched roofs-thick straw, piled high, with no wood underneath. It was the only place for animals to get warm, so all the dogs, cats and other small animals (mice rats, and bugs lived in the roof. When it rained it became slippery and sometimes the animals would slip and fall off the roof-hence the saying "It's raining cats and dogs." There was nothing to stop things from falling into the house. ---This posed a real problem in the bedroom where bugs and other droppings could really mess up your nice clean bed. Hence, a bed with big posts and a sheet hung over the top afforded some protection. That's how canopy beds came into existence. --- The floor was dirt. Only the wealthy had something other than dirt, hence the saying "dirt poor." The wealthy had slate floors that would get slippery in the winter when wet, so they spread thresh on the floor to help keep their footing. As the winter wore on, they kept adding more thresh until when you opened the door it would all start slipping outside. A piece of wood was placed in the entry way-hence, a "thresh hold." ---They cooked in the kitchen with a big kettle that always hung over the fire.Every day they lit the fire and added things to the pot. They ate mostly vegetables and did not get much meat They would eat the stew for dinner, leaving leftovers in the pot to get cold overnight and then start over the next day. Sometimes the stew had food in it that had been there for quite a while-hence the rhyme, "peas porridge hot, peas porridge cold, peas porridge in the pot nine days old."---Sometimes they could obtain pork, which made them feel quite special. When visitors came over, they would hang up their bacon to show off. It was a sign of wealth that a man "could bring home the bacon." They would cut off a little to share with guests and would all sit around and "chew the fat." ---Those with money had plates made of pewter. Food with a high acid content caused some of the lead to leach onto the food, causing lead poisoning and death. This happened most often with tomatoes, so for the next 400 years or so, tomatoes were considered poisonous.--- Most people did not have pewter plates, but had trenchers, a piece of wood with the middle scooped out like a bowl. Often trenchers were made from stale pieces of bread which was so old and hard that they could use them for quite some time. Trenchers were never washed and a lot of times worms and mold got into the wood and old bread. After eating off wormy moldy trenchers, one would get "trench mouth."---Bread was divided according to status. Workers got the burnt bottom of the loaf, the family got the middle, and guests got the top, or "upper crust."---Lead cups were used to drink ale or whiskey. The combination would sometimes knock them out for a couple of days. Someone walking along the road would take them for dead and prepare them for burial. They were laid out on the kitchen table for a couple of days and the family would gather around and eat and drink and wait and see if they would wake up-hence the custom of holding a "wake."---England is old and small and they started out running out of places to bury people. So they would dig up coffins and would take the bones to a "bone-house" and reuse the grave. When reopening these coffins, one out of 2 coffins were found to have scratch marks on the inside and they realized they had been burying people alive. So they thought they would tie a string on the wrist of the corpse, lead it through the coffin and up through the ground and tie it to a bell. Someone would have to sit out in the graveyard all night (the "graveyard shift") to listen for the bell; thus, someone could be "saved by the bell" or was considered a "dead ringer."
2/6/01 -- Ontario Provincial Cup-Hamilton Canada February 24th 2001 trip by some Ohio Kwanmukan dojo, reported by Jack Pyles
The Canadian tournament was a great success overall. In kata I think our people really shined, we might not have taken all the places, but our kids showed we are tradition and thats what it is about! We had 13 competitors and they all placed in the top 10 places in every event. Some people might think that not to well, but considering there was 1100 competitors, and the fighting was primarily Tae Kwon Do they did extremely well. Most of the competitors are also new to these types of events. I give Mike Bukala and Debbie allot of credit since they both competed and still where able to be at almost every event to see are kids compete. They ran 19 rings, 10 always running and 9 rotating for breaks and practice. Soon as I can transfer all the footage I'll get you a copy. Having 3 different dojo's plus the Hombu represented made it a true KMK effort. It is also helping bring allot of the kids closer together, veterans like Adam and Heidi have been trying to help the new ones adjust to these types of situations. Even though some of them are older they are asking Heidi and Adam for help since they have been doing this for awhile. Nosa's instructor course I think will help even with this, dealing with the different ages and abilities is sometimes hard in a tournament situation.
Everyone was well behaved and represented the organization really well. The promoters where surprised at how well are people did in the different forms such as the Korean and Chinese. Most of the divisions ran between 14-19 people, some of the weapons where at 35+ competitors. Any releases that are issued in Canada, all competitors are listed as CMA Akron with Nosa as their instructor since this was a International Tournament. We made allot of really good contacts as far as possible future events and hopefully bringing some of them here for a larger tournament in 2002 if it's on a Saturday because of drive times. The Canadians really treated us well and Mike knew some of the Master from his competition days way back when. Its funny watching Heidi and Adam talking to some of the competitors for 5-10 minutes than finally realizing the people speak no English. Several countries where represented as well as much of the Upper East Coast, there was defiantly some of the finer open competitors there. Adam had competed against a few in the past like at Koepel's in July.
Thank you gentleman for letting us have the opportunity of taking these kids on the road, most of them have become extended family for me and Deb and Mike. The older kids are really forming a bound and trying to look out for the little ones, patience is a virtue!!!!

2/6/01 --Lineage of gymnasium of late Supreme Grandmaster Ki Whang Kim -- Jason Hill, jason.hill@worldnet.att.net
Thank you for the response. I have just gotten in from training with Grandmaster Roberts. We were just talking about our lineage and he had a question about Hohen Soken (I hope that I am spelling his name correctly). Grandmaster noticed that there are times when he is not listed in the lineage. I will pass this on to Grandmaster Roberts and give him your regards. I look forward to communicating with you soon.
---Jason,Try the site at http://www.wkf.org/shudokan.html and follow the links to the Shihan list of Toyama. (http://www.wkf.org/shudokan.list.html) You will find that In Byung Yun is there as is the founder of the Ji Do Kwan. Hohan Soken was not listed at that time. I will send this to President Caldwell for his reply. He calls Michio Koyasu in Japan frequently and he can ask him directly if need be. Caldwell is quite a scholar on the Shudokan so he probably knows outright. Also, you might want to look at http://www.kwanmukan.com/reports/lineage.pdf
2/4/01 --Lineage of gymnasium of late Supreme Grandmaster Ki Whang Kim -- Jason Hill, jason.hill@worldnet.att.net
Good Evening: I wanted to express to you how much I enjoyed reading your website about Shu Do Kan Karate. It cleared up a lot of questions about the lineage of my dojo. I will do my best to keep this message as concise as possible. My name is Jason Hill and I train at Kim Studio in Washington, DC. My instructor is the late Supreme Grandmaster Ki Whang Kim. I have been a student of Kim Studio since 1982 and presently hold the rank of 5th Dan. Grandmaster Kim passed away on September 16, 1993. Grandmaster James K. Roberts, Jr. now runs the dojo. He keeps the traditions of Grandmaster Kim and of Shu Do Kan alive in our dojo. Even though our founder is Korean, we feel that our lineage is Okinawan in origin. Grandmaster Kim studied the Shu Do Kan karate style under Toyama Kanken at Nihon University in Japan. This was during WWII when Japan occupied Korea and forced many Korean men into service with the Japanese army. I vividly remember Grandmaster Kim talking about his training under Toyama Kanken. It always brought a glimmer to his eye. I would like to learn more about the lineage of the Shu Do Kan style. I appreciate your efforts in preserving the teachings of Toyama Kanken. Many more of my fellow practioners are interested as well to learn about the teaching of Toyama Kanken. I can be reached at either jason.hill+AEA-worldnet.att.net, or at jason.hill+AEA-us.randstad.com. The website for my dojo is www.kim-studio.com. I look forward to hearing more from you in the immediate future. Take care.
----Dear Jason, Thanks for the note. Say Hello to James Roberts for me, you can tell him that he probably remembers me as a student of Il Joo Kim from Akron, Ohio. We have very good connections with the Toyama dojo and would be most happy to put you on our contact membership list for the International Shudokan. This is not a pay for membership but is a list of everyone we feel has authentic roots to the Shudokan. It lets us have your information on hand and if anything special arises, you will be notified. Of course, it swells our international membership numbers, but the list is confidential and you have no obligation at all. It is merely a friendship, recognition, and talk to list. Is that OK with you and we would be more than pleased to have GM Roberts permission also. If you want to join as a supporting member, you can, but that is another matter and you have to request it I am a student of Chull Hee Park and have 9th dan from Nam Suk Lee, both students of In Byung Yoon, as student of Toyama. GM Mr. Park was a close friend of GGM Ki Whang Kim and for a while had a gym in Silver Springs also. We are thinking of inviting Michio Koyasu from the Shudokan over here to say hello and go over the history of the Shudokan. In the meantime, I am copying this letter to the "Encyclopedia of the Shudokan," President James Caldwell. George Anderson

10/27/00 -- Subject: Ilyse Sternberg's lawsuit The facts were all wrong. From: SKUSAJKA@aol.com--Dr 1.Alex Sternberg
Hi there--I recently read the comments regarding my wife's lawsuit on your website. As the facts were all wrong. I wondered why didn't any of you check with me. Perhaps the glee in writing some dirt on USANKF clouded your judgement. Btw, lets see if you print my comments. I hope you will. In 1996 my wife Ilyse earned the right to represent the USA in the WKF world championships held in S. Africa. She fought in the kilo division and Coach Tokey Hill wrote that she fought better than any of the women on the team. She won a few matches before losing to a the bronze medal winner. But the womens team was not entered because Thiry thought that "the women may get hurt" although disappointed she didn't say anything. In 1998 she once again earned the right to be a member of the womens team(this time only qualifying in the team category) travelling to Brazil, naturally at her own expense. The NIGHT BEFORE the women's team event was scheduled, coach Tokey Hill pulled the team out from the competition (the reasons are murky and under dispute) noe Ilyse was really disappointed. A day or two later when she had a chance to speak to Thiry, she voiced her disappointment to him he told her that if she didn't like the decision, "well you can all ways file a grievance" this was perhaps not the best thing to advise Ilyse as she is a litigation attorney. Well she filed her motion which is at this time marked for trial. As a result of my wife's action I was suspended from the chairmanship of the referee council and even as a referee in the USANKF. But the USAKF never had a better record at protecting the athletes rights or the officials rights, which is why YOU LOST THE NGB STATUS. The sad truth is that almost every leader of the traditional karate movement upon gaining power forgets the athletes and concentrates only on maintaining power
THIS IS WHY THE USA DOES NOT DOMINATE THE INTERNATIONAL KARATE SCENE!!!!!!! Its so self serving for any one to gloat at troubles within the NKF or the USAKF or the a au but we all do the same karate and i believe we STILL HAVE MORE THAT UNITES US THAN WHAT DIVIDES US! TO BE HONEST THE USAKF NEVER ONCE FIELDED A TEAM THAT WAS SPONSORED FINANCIALLY. Neither did the USANKF. Both groups conveniently forget the MOST IMPORTANT THING
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>THE ATHLETES<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<< THE AAU TO THEIR CREDIT HAS SPONSORED SEVERAL TEAMS As to my problems with Tokey Hill in the New York area its not nasty and after 20 years of friendship i am sure our friendship will endure even if we have some differences in politics. Because WE in the USANKF have the NGB status at this time why dont all of you join, participate in USANKF activities and help to guarantee that the organization stands for "ATHLETES RIGHTS" and a great USA effort. Don't kid yourself Julius Thiry has done many great things for the growth of USA karate as has George Anderson. My disagreements are not personal!
--Dear Alex, As you can see, we are printing your letter untouched except for a few changes in capitalization because you wrote mainly in lowercase.
As usual, you present thing in a very interesting manner, to say the least. You should be aware that we print nearly all material that is sent to us for distribution if it is suitable for a site read by young people and if it is a point of view, and not a viscous personal attack. You should also note that our many differences with you are not personal. We received the notes published and thought them newsworthy. We do note gloat at problems within the USANKF and in fact, I have many members of my personal organization structure competing in the USANKF as well as in the USAKF. However, it is true that for personal reasons, the USANKF does not fit into my group of favorite sports federations. However, I am not bent out of shape about it and appreciate that many fine people are involved. And I am not at all happy to see that the karate group representing the USA in the Olympic of the USA has troubles of any kind. I would like to see it move forward for the good of all.
Now, if you want a more complete story about your troubles/tribulations/victories/plaudits/accomplishments, please do not hesitate to send them here and we promise not to gloat, giggle or sneer. You deserve a lot of credit for what you have done and in the future we are sure you will receive it. Regards as usual, George Anderson
10/25/00 Subj: Party Ilyse Sternberg wins Federal motion From: A broadcast letter to USAKF and others. Some material has been edited out and the brackets inclose USAKF comments.
Hi there, As you know the NKF answer to Ilyse's lawsuit was a motion to dismiss her lawsuit based on the grounds that because the NKF does not receive money from the federal government or the USOC it is not bound by the same anti-discrimination laws and therefore no one can sue it in a court of law.(in other words it can discriminate and your only remedy is to file a grievance in the usankf?) Well, a judge in Federal Court in N.Y. disagreed and issued an order allowing Ilyse to go ahead and proceed to trial. this is a big setback for ....[The NKF leadership}....and a major victory for ATHLETES RIGHTS and all the members of the USANKF. I recall back in 94' when we were trying to convince the USOC that we (usankf) should be trusted with the NGB our motto was DONT FORGET ITS ATHLETES RIGHTS STUPID!!!
In a curious development, ....[The NKF argued].... that the NKF does not receive any federal or USOC monies, [and said] that the USANKF received (get this) $100,000 from BUDWEISER AND TEXACO and not the USOC.(Remember the Budweiser and Texaco logos on the brochures for the nationals). I am sure you share my curiosity and join me in asking ....>>>>>>WHAT HAPPENED TO THAT MONEY???????? <<<<<<< Did the athletes receive funding to the world championships??? ......Did the referees have their way paid ?? ....Did the members of the USANKF benefit? ........DID [they].... AT LEAST GIVE THE USA NATIONAL ......TEAM MEMBERS A FREE PATCH ....????
10/26/00 Subject: Please post letter in reply to above Sternberg note. From: Yungborn Naturopathic Institute, yungborn@netscape.net
I have been saying all along that the USAKF should be the NGB for the USA and this news only convinces the Global Martial Arts Federation membership this judgment is appropriate. The major problem we seem to have in the martial arts community is the appointed leadership at times forgets; without the athletes and schools supporting the efforts of unifying the sport under the Olympic flag there is no Olympic movement. Taekwondo ( WTF) and Judo ( Olympic) are perfect examples of what happens when the schools and athletes are forgotten or taken advantage of by those that wish to discriminate or impose a monopolistic business practice that limits the growth of the arts we so dearly adore and devote our lives to. I always believe that the senior black belts should be managing the martial arts sports and the junior black belts should follow the dictates of the seniors. Moreover, lets not forget that the student learns from the seniors physically demonstrating, just as they learn honesty, integrity and loyalty from the same demonstration. Dr. James Dussault, President Global Martial Arts Federation
10/26/00 -- Subject: Byung in Yoon From: Michael Black, aikidocenter@dialaccess.com
I have a question for you. It shows on your webpage that Byung in Yoon resurfaced in 1995 in North Korea. May I ask where he is today? Is he still in North Korea? Is he okay? I know that I have asked several questions but you see my former teacher Pyung Soo Kim of Houston Texas has been searching for his whereabouts since the Korean War. His teachers were Grandmasters; Park Chull Hee and Nam Suk Lee. As you know they were students of Grandmaster Byung in Yoon. Any help as to his current condition would be greatly appreciated.
--- I don't know where exactly but I will ask Grandmaster Park the next time that he contacts me, which will be soon, I hope.

10/26/00 Recovered from 6/12/00 Subject: National Championship Registration From: Michael E. Jehle, mejehle@hotmail.com
I am interested in registering for the National Championships to be held July 14 - 16, 2000 in Canton, OH. I have read the registration information on your web site and still have a few specific questions as to my personal situation. 1. I believe that the only forms that are necessary are (a) the registration form (from the PDF format), (b) a copy of my birth certificate, (c) the Amateur Athletic Waiver and Release of Liability (which is not in the documents in PDF format but which I copied from the text version on your web site), and (d) the Participation Sports Exam (in PDF format). Is this correct? 2. I am 46 years old and have been training for less than 1 year. I know to check 45 & over, Beginner and General Kata, but what kumite division do I select, since there is no indication of a senior kumite division? 3. Even though I am 46 and a beginner, I have competed in several tournaments in the general 35+ age bracket and with the beginner/novice division. I have no desire to be in a division that only has two or three competitors in it. Should I select age 45 & over - beginner (which is exactly what I am), or is it more likely that there will be more competitors in some other senior category (such as Senior 35 & over - Novice)? I don't want to get in too far over my head (such as in the Adult 18 & over divisions), but I truly want to know how I am doing so some meaningful number of competitors would be desirable. Your input on this issue would be greatly appreciated. 4. If I get to the competition and discover that there only one or two competitors in my division, is it possible to switch into a different division at the tournament itself? Thank you for your kind input on these issues

----The USA Karate was in use a long time ago a dojo name. We don't hassle too much over the use of the name but they are not us. We also had a USA Karate of Texas as our Regional Sports Organization and it was run by Don Coslet. In aggravated cases we will sue if necessary.

Dear Grand Master Anderson, I was directed to your site by Master Dussault. I do not mind that the private conversation between Master Dussault and myself is posted on your site, however Sir, the statement below found on your website (in <<) is an incorrect quote of me, this is something I did not state and I request that you please remove it from your site. To clarify, I what I stated: I, as USA group leader, was the first of a group of 18 non Korean born American graduates of the 1st Foreign Instructors Qualification Training Course held at Kukkiwon in July of 1998, to earn a master-instructors license (certificate) issued by Kukkiwon, World Taekwondo Academy. There were approximately 90 attendees from 38 nations at this course. The graduation photograph, as well as the USA group photograph is available at www.deestkd.com under Korea Pictures. There are thousands of Korea born Persons with instructors license from Kukkiwon and at least over a 100 non Korean born instructors by now, since the 2nd Foreign Course took place this past July (1999). I would never make such a foolish statement as the one below. Dussault --- Letter to WTF/ Kukkiwon International leadership
Gentlemen, I was just informed by Master Al Cole of Cleveland Ohio ( He says he is the only American Kukkiwon certified Instructor in the world ) ? <<Thank you for your attention to this matter, Sir, Al Cole
